Cultural Heritage and Tourism EHU International

On September 23, 2006, there was a tour of Belarus “Magnatskaya Myasyna” in which students, teachers and graduates of EHU took part. Tourists visited the Estate of Puslovsky “Albertin” near Slonim, the historical center of Slonim (churches of the 17th and 18th centuries, the synagogue of the 17th century), Sonkovich (a church of the defense type of the late 15th century – early 16th century), the palace complex Sapeg in Ruzhan, the Kossovsky Palace-Park Ensemble of the 19th century (the palace).

The tour was organized by the teachers of the bachelor’s program “Cultural Heritage and Tourism” and timed to coincide with the World Tourism Day celebrated on September 27.

September 8, 2006. Registration for distance learning courses begins on September 11. In the autumn semester of this school year, 61 bachelor’s courses in all areas of training in EHU are offered for study in a remote format: Belarusian, political science, law, philosophy, cultural studies, tourism, journalism, art studies, design.
The procedure of enrolling in courses and training is carried out in the EHU “Moodle” distance learning system.

Registration for distance courses will end on September 28, 2006.

September 1, 2006. The 1st stage of the admission campaign on bachelor’s programs has ended in EHU. The total competition was 1.2 people per seat. The most popular among entrants were the programs “International Law” and “Visual Design and Media.” Due to the fact that some specializations – history and culture of Belarus, “Cultural Heritage and Tourism” and “Visual and Cultural Studies” – received fewer applications than the plan of admission to full-time office, the acceptance of documents for them was extended until September 10. It was also decided to extend the reception of documents for absentee programs in all directions until September 15, 2006.

The second stage of the competitive selection will take place from September 10 to 15, for which applicants will be invited to Vilnius.

Admission schedule

On August 28, 2006, the Second European Summer University on Chernobyl, Chernobyl: Memory, History, Legacy, began in Vilnius. The summer university is held jointly by the European Humanities University, the University of Cannes (France), the University of Cannes. Mikolas Roemeris (Vilnius, Lithuania) and the University of Moscow. T. Shevchenko (Kiev, Ukraine) and will last until September 3.

The aim of this educational project is to study the social, political and cultural reality of post-catastrophic society. The participation of leading professionals, as well as students and young researchers from different countries will create a space of scientific dialogue on this socio-political issue and will start the creation of a new generation of regional professional community. In view of the fact that the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster are a complex problem, the basis for its study will be an interdisciplinary approach.

August 24, 2006. The end of the ‘2006 admissions campaign’ is approaching.
We remind you that the documents for the bachelor’s program are accepted until August 30 inclusive. On August 28, the Propely Language and Pre-University Training Centre conducts additional testing in foreign languages (Advanced Speech Test) for EHU entrants.

To study at master’s-level programs, applicants with higher education must submit documents by August 25, and those enrolled in informal education by September 10, 2006.

On 1 August 2006, a delegation of the Swedish moderaterna party met with the university leadership at the EHU. The visit of the party head and candidate for prime minister of Sweden, Mr. Reinfeld, the head of the foreign affairs and security department of Ms. Clase and their other colleagues, was devoted to getting to know our university and discussing further plans for its cooperation with Sweden.

On July 31, 2006, the first academic year of our university in Lithuania ended.

We congratulate the students and their parents, the faculty and the administration of the university, friends of EHU and all those who contributed to the revival of the university and its activities in exile. Thank you for your support and solidarity!

On July 26, 2006, another session of the EHU Senate was held.
One of the decisions of the Senate was, starting from the 2006/2007 academic year, to accept on a competitive basis on an informal basis as students of master’s-level programs of students of Belarusian higher education institutions, who have completed 4 courses of full-time or 5 courses of part-time forms of education. After receiving the Belarusian diploma of higher education, students of the master’s program under the informal training program will be transferred to the status of full-fledged students of the respective master’s programs. On July 25, 2006, the heSP’s three-year “Visual and Cultural Research: Subject, Techniques and Didactic Strategies” project hosted the final session of “Critical Readings of Popular Sulture: Ideology and/or Entertainment?”. Participants from Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and the Czech Republic gathered for the meeting, which took place from July 12 to 24, first in Vilnius and then in Klaipeda. The session was also attended by four visiting professors: the famous feminist and film theorist from London Laura Mulvey presented her latest book “Death Twenty-Four Times a Second, Stillness and the Moving Image”; The editors of the important visual studies journals Parallax and the Journal of Visual Culture, Marquard Smith and Joanna Morra, have made a number of presentations, both in journals and in their own research; Dana Heller, an expert in American popular culture, gender studies, contemporary literature and film, gave a series of lectures on television. After graduating from the school on July 25, Laura Mulvey, Marquard Smith and Joanna Morra met with the university’s rector Anatoly Mikhailov and the first provost Vladimir Dunayev.

July 24, 2006. On July 10-22, in Lithuania, with the support of the Higher Education Support Programme (HESP, Hungary), EHU held the final summer session of the Central-Eastern Europe Border In the Context of New Humanistism.

The three-year project, organized for young teachers and dedicated to modern approaches in education and research, ended with the presentation of an upcoming monograph on the topic of the seminar prepared by the seminar participants, as well as a course of lectures on it. In addition, a number of seminars and roundtables were held to both summarize the results of the work over the three years and to determine the format of further cooperation. In particular, it was decided to form an association of researchers of the Eastern European border and create a laboratory of post-colonial and border research, the purpose of which is to provide a platform for further deepening developments in this area and attracting new scientists to this promising direction of research. In the near future, the Internet site “Other Europe” will be launched for the needs of these structures.

The real highlight of this session was a series of lectures with one of the founders of post-colonial studies, a member of the subaltern Studies group, Professor Dipesh Chakrabarty of the University of Chicago. After reading a series of lectures and answering a number of questions during the discussions, Prof. Chakrabarti expressed his particular satisfaction with the current level of conceptualization achieved within the project and praised the prospects for further cooperation.

July 15, 2006. The second day of open doors took place in the EHU. The applicants and their parents were met by the leaders and teachers of the visual design and media and Belarusians (the latter program has three specialties: History and Culture of Belarus, Intercultural Communication and Protection and Use of Cultural Heritage).

At the end of the day, after meetings in the university’s rectorate building, some applicants took the opportunity to get acquainted with the historical part of Vilnius during a tour organized by university students. We thank Alesya Alexeyev and Olga Serikov (1 course, specialization “Protection and use of cultural heritage”) for an interesting and professional tour!

July 10, 2006. The results of the contest for the creation of banners and slogan of the EHU are summed up.

The jury decided to award the award in the category “For the best embedded banner with the ratio of the sides 8:1” to Sergey Kulinkovic and two awards in the category “For the best slogan” Alexey Krivolap and Alexey Shekin.

It was decided not to award prizes in other categories, and in October 2006 to hold an additional competition to create flash banners.

On July 8, 2006, EHU welcomed entrants interested in enrolling in the Bachelor’s Program “Political Science” at the open house. European Research, Media and Communication, Political and Social Philosophy and International Law. Applicants and their parents personally met with university leaders and directors of the programs of interest to them and received answers to their questions about the content and quality of education, conditions of study and accommodation of students in Vilnius.

The second meeting with the entrants – this time by those who want to enter the programs “Belarusianism” and “Visual Design and Media” – will take place in a week, July 15, 2006.

On July 5, 2006, an evening dedicated to the end of the first school year of EHU in exile took place in Vilnius. The evening was prepared and spent by the students themselves. The program was opened by theatrical performances of students who joined the theater studio “EST” (Experimental Student Theatre). Everything that happens on the stage has been documented by students engaged in photography. The EHU Photo Community presented a photo exhibition illustrating the life of a student in three ways: “Faces of EHU,” “Training weekdays” and “Creative.”

June 30, 2006. E.H.U. International in Vilnius, Lithuania, announced an additional scholarship competition for postgraduate internships in 2006. The additional competition is scheduled for July 1-20, 2006.

On June 30, 2006, representatives of the Finnish Embassy in Lithuania – Ambassador Timo Lahelm and Embassy Secretary Stefan Heikkinen – met with students of master’s programs in political science (master’s degrees for leaders and activists of NGOs and master’s degrees in European studies). Mr. Lahelma introduced students to the priorities of Finnish policy as President of the European Union on 1 July 2006 and answered questions from students.

June 28, 2006. Today, EHU began negotiations with donors to support the recruitment of undergraduate students in 2006. The issue of funding free tuition for 170 students from Belarus and granting them scholarships is being discussed.

June 26, 2006. June 22-24, 2006. an international scientific conference “CAPITALISM AND/LI PARTICY? Gender in the post-Soviet space.”
The conference, organized by the Centre for Gender Studies at the European Humanities University, was attended by more than 40 researchers from fourteen countries in Eastern and Western Europe, as well as North America. The main problem blocks of the discussion were connected with post-Soviet social stratification, nation-building and the formation of state institutions, as well as the transformation of everyday life in post-communist countries. The conference program is available on the Website of the Center for Gender Studies. The result of the conference will be a collective scientific collection, which is now being prepared for publication in the CGI.

On June 14, 2006, Vilnius hosted the first match in a series of friendly sports meetings of EHU students and teachers – “EHU Football Cup”. Along with the teachers on the football field, some representatives of the university administration and students of the master’s degree fought with the students. The result of a friendly, but, nevertheless, a tough game – 5:3 in favor of the team of students. A return match is planned in the near future.

June 14, 2006. The Center for Gender Studies has published the book “Memories” by Olga Bembel-Dedok. This publication opens the series “GREAT AGE: Women’s Testimony.” Details – on the website of the Center for Gender Studies

June 13, 2006. EHU announced a competition to create advertising banners and the slogan of the university. The dates of the competition are from June 14 to July 2, 2006.

On June 9, 2006, the EHU conducted methodological training with the participation of an expert from the Dutch company Edugolive BV as part of a project to support distance education. Participants of the training – EHU teachers representing the university’s remote programs in all areas – will not only be able to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in further work on their distance courses, but will also share them with colleagues as part of special active training activities planned by the Center for Distance Learning for the EHU Teaching Community.

On 8 June 2006, EHU announced an open house. Applicants and their parents are invited to come to Vilnius on July 8 or 15 (depending on the chosen program) to get acquainted with the university – teachers and students, as well as to talk with the leaders of the EHU and its bachelor’s programs. June 1, 2006. The EHU Center for Gender Studies has announced the launch of a new Internet project: the Public Gender Library. The library has collected texts on gender studies, many of which have appeared only in small or special editions, so the library’s main purpose is to provide access to these materials to a wide range of readers. The text case will be updated weekly. The Library invites authors who want to post published articles, monographs and collections on gender studies.

The spring semester began on March 1, 2006. We wish the students and teachers of EHU creative success and enthusiasm!

Together with the students who have returned to the EHU classrooms in Vilnius today, more than 500 people who have signed up for distance learning courses are enrolled in the undergraduate training. During the two weeks of registration, the Remote Program Directorate received more than 1,800 applications for 60 announced courses. The most popular among them were a number of courses in art and design. Applications of accepted students of remote courses show: the Network European Humanities University is now working all over Belarus, they represent more and more middle-sized cities of the country. Moreover, it operates almost everywhere in the world: from Brazil to Turkey and China, from Odessa to Ufa and Angarsk.

However, registration for distance learning courses has not yet been completed – students of the correspondence department can apply for courses until March 15. Also, those who for some reason did not have time to register on time, can solve this problem individually.

On February 17-18, 2006, a meeting of the rectorate and the EHU admissions committee took place. The meeting discussed the rules of admission to the university and enrollment of students for correspondence. After the rector’s approval, the rules of reception will be posted on the EHU website. On February 13-15, 2006, A.A.Mikhailov, rector of the European Humanities University, was in Stockholm, Sweden. In meetings with Foreign Minister L. Freiwalds, Secretary General of the Council of Nordic Ministers P. Unkel, representatives of the academic community and journalists discussed the prospects for the development of educational programs in Belarus and the Baltic states.

In particular, it was agreed that a new master’s programme would be developed in the near future in cooperation with the University of South Stockholm and with the support of Sweden at EHU.

On 15 February 2006, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania agreed to establish a Belarusian European Humanities University in exile. Read the Lithuanian government’s press release in Russian and Lithuanian.

In the new semester, the European Humanities University is moving its distance learning programs to a new learning environment. The previously used eLearning Server 3000 system will be replaced by the Moodle system that is common with Open Source.
What will be the process of distance learning in EHU in the new format? What are the advantages of the new system? On 6-10 February 2006, the next session of the international project “Border of Central-Eastern Europe in the context of The New Humanisty” was taking place, launched in 2003 on the basis of E.H.U. International with the assistance of the Open Society Institute/ Higher Education Support Program (OSI/HESP). This winter school is devoted to two main themes: 1) the presentation of visual culture research in the context of the Eastern European Border and 2) “Border Education” as a problem of the introduction and application in the educational process of the apparatus of disciplines of the New Humanist. Also during the school, the project participants – teachers of various humanitarian disciplines from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Moldova – will present their individual and group projects.

The final session of the international project “Modern Communication Philosophy and Communication Strategies in Teaching Philosophy” (2003-2006) organized by E.H.U. International with the assistance of the Open Society Institute/Higher Education Support Program (OSI/HESP, New York – Budapest) took place on January 3, 2006. The session discussed the programs developed by the participants and their experience, as well as the possibility of continuing scientific cooperation after the completion of the project. Philosophy teachers from Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine and Georgia, as well as a number of well-known scientists from Germany, the USA and Canada took part in the project.

On January 31, 2006, the leaders of the European Humanities University, the Institute of Lithuanian History, the Institute of Culture, Philosophy and Art Studies, the Institute of Social Research, the Institute of Lithuanian Language and the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore met at the Lithuanian History Institute. The meeting agreed on cooperation in higher education and research in the social and humanities.

January 30, 2006. 1 (12) issue of Topos magazine was published. The main themes of the issue are Rethinking Metaphysics, Preprecative Experience and Transcendence, Subject and History, And Culture Topology. On January 27, 2006, Vilnius began a one-week winter school “Teaching visual culture in a world full of images.” This is the next session of the three-year project “Visual and Cultural Research: Subject, Methods and Didactic Strategies” which is being implemented by the EHU Visual and Cultural Research Laboratory in conjunction with the University of Vilnius and the Institute of Philosophy, Culture and the Arts (Vilnius, Lithuania) with the assistance of the Higher Education Support Program (HESP). The purpose of the 2006 winter session is to present and discuss the curriculum and materials used by the project participants in their teaching practice. Also the event of the school will be the arrival of James Elkins, a professor at the Chicago Institute of the Arts. January 28-29 Prof. Elkins will hold a two-day workshop on visual literacy and the use of images as communication tools and teaching tools. See the Winter School program on the project’s website.

January 26, 2006. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution on the situation in Belarus on the eve of the presidential elections. Among other things, the resolution called on THE PACE to “respect academic freedoms and, in particular, to provide appropriate conditions for the return of the European Humanitarian University to Minsk” (p. 12.11). In addition, the Assembly calls on the European Union to “continue to support the European Humanitarian University in exile in Vilnius” (p. 15.4).

On January 26, 2006, the teachers of the bachelor’s program “Belarus” held a meeting with fellow historians from Lithuanian universities and academic institutions. The meeting discussed the prospects of joint educational and research programs.

January 26, 2006. The E.H.U. International Center for Gender Studies announces the next (third) gender studies competition for the best article on gender studies in Russian language, published in 2005, and invites to nominate texts. More information is available on the Centre’s website.

January 11, 2006. On January 9-11, a seminar “Modern Communication Philosophy” was held at the University of Vilnius. The seminar was organized as part of the “Modern Communication Philosophy and Communication Strategies in Teaching Philosophy” project, which was implemented by the European Humanities University in 2003-2006. with the assistance of the Open Society Institute /Higher Education Support Program, New York – Budapest. Teachers and researchers from Minsk, Vilnius, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Tbilisi and Riga took part in the seminar.

January 4, 2006. Center for Gender Studies E . H. U. International announced the start of applications for participation in the international scientific conference “Capitalism and/Is Patriarchy?”, which will be held on June 22-24, 2006 in Vilnius. On December 28, 2005, EHU philosophy teachers met with fellow philosophers from Lithuanian universities. The purpose of the meeting was to establish contacts and develop cooperation in the field of philosophy teaching and research in this area.

December 19, 2005. On December 16-18, the EHU “Belarus in Europe” conference was held in Vilnius. Education and culture in the face of the threat of self-isolation, which was attended by more than 50 representatives of the teaching staff, administration and employees of E.H.U. International from Minsk and Vilnius, guests from Ukraine, Lithuania, Germany. On the agenda of the conference were the issues of the relationship between Belarusian higher education and power, culture and ideology.

December 19, 2005. Since the beginning of January 2006, a joint project of the European Humanities University and the Nordic Council of Ministers, supported by the European Commission within the framework of the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights, has been launched. This project will be one of the main sources of funding for most of the academic programs of the bachelor’s and master’s training of EHU in Vilnius in 2006-2008, providing training for 170 bachelors and 180 undergraduates.

December 2, 2005. The 2006 calendar “Women weaving-thread-destiny” prepared by the E.H.U. International Center for Gender Studies as part of the “Women of Belarus: History in Everyday Life” series was published. Details are available on the Website of the Center for Gender Studies.

On 28 November 2005, the International Council of Trustees and Donors of the European Humanities University met in Washington. During the meeting, the members of the Council expressed gratitude to the Lithuanian side for their support of the university and welcomed the participation of European donors: the European Commission, the Council of Ministers of the Nordic countries, the governments of the member states of the European Union. According to the decision of the International Council of EHU, the future activities of the university will be based on a longer-term format of funding programs. In addition, the Council has expressed great interest in establishing the International Rector Support Group, which includes rectors of leading North American and European universities.

October 24, 2005. E.H.U. International Library opened in Vilnius. Students, undergraduates, staff and faculty can study in the reading room, as well as take books at home. Follow the announcements of new arrivals to the library on our website (library section).

October 8, 2005. On the second day of the school year, as part of the Tour d’Europe, a group of students from 16 European universities belonging to the international university consortium Campus Europae visited the EHU in Vilnius. During the meeting with Belarusian students, the guests made presentations of their universities and answered many questions raised by their Belarusian colleagues. On October 7, 2005, a new academic year began at our university.
171 students started classes as part of the EHU bachelor’s training programs in Vilnius. More than 250 applicants from Belarus applied for admission to the full-time department of the EHU in exile. As a result of the competition, candidates who showed the best academic successes and proved their motivation to receive higher education in the EHU were enrolled in the ranks of students. Thanks to the financial support of the European Commission and a number of American and European donors, all students enrolled in the 1st year of EHU in exile this year will receive education free of charge, as well as free places in the hostel in Vilnius.

In addition to full-time students, the university’s student community has grown by 293 people who will study full-time EHU in absentia.

100 young professionals are enrolled in the EHU Master’s degree, who want to improve their level of professional competence.

September 27, 2005. The Nordic Council of Ministers issued a press release announcing the organization’s plans with the European Union to support the EHU in Vilnius. Read the press release in Russian and English.

On August 5, 2005, an action was held to mark the Day of Closed Universities. At exactly 10 p.m. students, alumni, teachers and friends of EHU gathered on October Square in Minsk. The participants of the action lit candles for 10 minutes in memory of all that we were deprived of, “protecting” our right to education and closing universities in Belarus.

August 1, 2005. Students who have studied at EHU in 2, 3 or 4th year, and wishing to continue their education in Vilnius (in full-time or part-time form) on the appropriate course using the transfer of educational credits, must send a completed questionnaire to the applicant by August 26 (see here). At the end of the questionnaire, you must further specify the number of the course completed at the EHU, as well as the university, specialty and course at which you studied in the 2004/2005 academic year. Groups of relevant specialties and courses will be opened in Vilnius on full-time or part-time forms of education, provided they are filled.

July 7, 2005. The European Parliament adopted a resolution on the political situation and the independence of the media in Belarus. Two paragraphs of the resolution deal with the fate of the European Humanities University and its students. June 10, 2005. The conference dedicated to the inauguration of E.H.U. International was held in Vilnius on June 9 and 10, 2005. April 21, 2005. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Secretary General of the Council of the European Union, European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Javier Solana and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Antanas Valenis met with representatives of Belarusian civil society in Vilnius. April 14, 2005. 61 session of the UN Commission on Human Rights adopted a resolution on the human rights situation in Belarus, which expresses deep concern “… the revocation of the license of the European Humanities University (EHU) and the continuing pressure on EHU and other academic institutions by the Belarusian authorities.”

April 6, 2005. According to the Baltic News Service, citing the press service of the Lithuanian government, Lithuania is ready to accept the independent European Humanitarian University (EHU) expelled from Belarus. This was stated at the meeting of Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas with the rector of the EHU Anatoly Mikhailov.

March 21, 2005. March 15-18, 2005. Lithuania hosted the E.H.U. International Conference on E.H.U. International’s development strategy as a networking university, timed to coincide with the beginning of the spring semester.

About 50 teachers and other specialists from Belarus and Lithuania, who are directly involved in the implementation of remote educational programs within the framework of E.H.U. International, took part in the conference. Among the topics discussed were:
– Experience with Distance Education programs in philosophy, art and cultural studies.
– Problems with the use of software products for distance learning in Belarus.
– Prospects for the development of remote programs in the field of law, psychology, political science, etc.
– Development of master’s programs in social and humanities in collaboration with European universities. The Bologna process and the Belarusian context.
– Training of teaching staff for remote education programs.

E.H.U. International expresses its gratitude to the Eurasia Foundation, which supported the Conference.

On March 10, 2005,3-4 March, at the next meeting of the International Council of Trustees and Donors of EHU-International in Washington, the five-year university development plan and the 2005-2006 budget were approved. Read the full statement here.

March 8, 2005. The website of the Centre for Advanced Research and Education in social and humanities (CASE) has started work. Welcome!

March 4, 2005. More than 30 EHU students joined their colleagues in the second semester of 2005, whom EHU, with the support of foreign partners, helped to transfer to continue their studies in foreign higher education institutions. Students started their studies at Charles University in Prague, at the Smolny Institute, at the American University in Bulgaria, at Adam Miscavige University in Poland, at the Bialystok High School of Public Administration and other Polish universities.

March 1, 2005. In Minsk, it was announced the decision to start the liquidation of the private educational institution of the European Humanities University. Read the statement here.

February 1, 2005. January 28-29, 2005. the Conference “The Contribution of the German Side to the Development of the EHU” was held at the European University of Viadrin in Frankfurt-on-Oder. It was attended by representatives of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Humanities University (EHU), the European University of Viadrin, employees of various foundations and other organizations to express support for E.H.U. International.

January 10, 2005. Congratulations to Kirill Ilnitsky, a third-year philosophy student, on winning the competition for the E.H.U. International student’s position in the Campus Europae consortium.

January 5, 2005. We received a copy of the text of a letter sent by the President of The Carnegie Corporation of New York (a private foundation supporting programs designed to strengthen higher education in the countries of the former Soviet Union) Vartan Gregorian to the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. In this letter, President Gregorian, in particular, points out: “We join the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which stated that the closure of the EHU is a violation of the fundamental principles of the European Cultural Convention signed by Belarus.” Read the full letter here.

October 29, 2004. EHU-international was officially registered on October 28, 2004. EHU-international will be based on partnerships between universities and other educational institutions from different countries.

October 28, 2004. Two more Polish higher education institutions offered the possibility of continuing their studies for 15 EHU students. The embassy will be interviewed on Tuesday, November 2. Read more about this in the Student Information section.

October 22, 2004. On October 18-19, 38 students from the Faculty of Philosophy, Arts, Psychology, Economics and Law of EHU started their studies at the Smolny College of Liberal Arts and Sciences of St. Petersburg State University. This opportunity was realized thanks to the support of the leadership of St. Petersburg State University, the Smolny Institute and other partners of the EHU. Congratulations to our students on the beginning of the school year!

October 21, 2004. This week, the rector of the EHU Professor A.A.Mikhailov met with The President of Warsaw Lech Kaczynski, during which Lech Kaczynski expressed readiness to support the efforts of the EHU leadership aimed at continuing the mission of the university. Following the meeting, a press conference was held in the editorial office of the newspaper Rzeczpospolita, which published this article on this issue.
Also, the rector of the EHU Professor A.A.Mikhailov was sent a letter of support from the President of Warsaw Lech Kaczynski. In it, in particular, he points out that “closing … the university has angered the international community, and that the Warsaw city authorities are guaranteeing “the ability to support teachers and students wishing to continue their studies and work in Warsaw.” Read the full letter here.

October 15, 2004. In the first half of October, about 47 students of 4 and 5 courses of EHU started classes at German universities. 40 students of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Philosophy will spend this academic year at the European University of Viadrin (Frankfurt-on-Oder), 6 students of the 4th and 5th courses of the Faculty of Arts have started classes at the University of Fine Arts of Saarbrucken, the University of Cittau has accepted one student of the 4th year of the Faculty of Economics, reached the reception of 17 students of the Faculty of Information Technology, Psychology and Law of Berlin.

On September 24, 2004, at 6 p.m., the exhibition “International JOYCE” (P. Skaryna, 24) opened. The exhibition is dedicated to the life and work of the Irish writer James Joyce (1882-1941). Read more about the exhibition program.

On September 23, 2004, Alexander Lukashenko admitted during a meeting with students of the university of Brest region that he had closed the EHU for political reasons. Read more.

On September 15, 2004, three EHU students began their studies at the American University in Bulgaria.

On September 1, 2004, with the support of EHU’s U.S. partners, nineteen students who were in the U.S. under the Work-Travel program were able to study for one year at U.S. colleges.
