Congratulatory message from the Rector of the EHU, Academician Anatoly Arsenyevich Mikhailov
Dear students!
Dear colleagues!
The coming year of 2005 we have to meet in radically changed circumstances.
After 12 years of the existence of the European Humanities University, the actions of the authorities, who have not been able to clearly and intelligently explain the reasons for the revocation of the license, an attempt was made to massacre one of the most famous higher education institutions, which contributed to the multiplication of the intellectual potential of the country and strengthening its international authority. As a result, the fate of thousands of people was destroyed, the prestige of Belarus was irreparably damaged. Hundreds of students were scattered around universities around the world, and many of the teachers and staff lost their jobs. In 2004, Belarus was called a country where universities are closed.
The reaction to this blatant lawlessness was the unprecedented solidarity of the world academic community, with the support of which the university in exile, EHU-International, is being established. In response to attempts to isolate the country’s education and doom it to provincialism, it is envisaged that more ambitious, internationally recognized, educational programmes will be created. Of course, this will require the utmost effort from all those for whom personal dignity and professionalism are a principle of life, not just an empty declaration.
Please accept the most sincere congratulations on the upcoming New Year, which should be a year of rebirth so dear to us all of the European Humanities University!

December 28, 2004. Since the official registration of the EHU-International Network University, held exactly two months ago, on October 28, 2004, three organizations have already announced their accession to it: the European University of Viadrin (Frankfurt-on-Oder, Germany), the University of Vytautas the Great (Kaunas, Lithuania) and the American Council on International Education (USA).
EHU-international’s work is based on partnerships between universities and other educational institutions from different countries, joint development and provision of educational programs, and the principle of student mobility, which will be able to participate in many of these programs, including through distance learning.
December 22, 2004. The EHU Gender Research Center has released “Calendar 2005: Women on the Front Line” from the series “Women of Belarus: History in Everyday Life.” The calendar is dedicated to a topic still unpopular with military historians – military daily life: on the front, in the rear, in the occupied territories. We know a lot about the war- and we don’t know much. How did people live every day in the Belarusian land occupied for three years? Did the children go to school? What was the partisan life? Women’s military daily life? Soviet posters? And what was depicted on the German agitators, who called to work in the Reich? Read more here.
December 16, 2004. The Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Social and Humanities at the European Humanities University (CASE) conducted a research seminar on the Eastern European Frontier.
December 1, 2004. The Institute of German Studies announces the start of German and European Studies classes from 3 December in the form of “short courses” to be held from December 2004 to March 2005 in German. See more information (in German) about the classes on offer and their schedule here.
November 24, 2004. The Presidency of the Conference of Rectors of the Universities of Poland (Konferencja Rektorow Akademickich Szkolskich – KRASP) adopted a resolution on November 18, 2004 supporting the initiative of KRASP members supporting EHU students to continue their studies in Poland. The resolution also calls on other KRASP members to allow EHU students to continue their studies in Poland in full-time or part-time departments (undergraduate, master’s or doctoral studies), or to provide them with other forms of assistance.

November 18, 2004. EHU-International is the European Humanities University and the NEW LINE Youth Education Club. opening a series of meetings of the philosophical youth club WWLI-EHU (Internet project “The World in Which We Live” / World We Live In – WWLI).
The first meeting on “What does it mean to BE FREE?” will take place on Sunday, November 21, at 4 p.m. at: EHU, Skaryna Ave., 24, Aud. 307. Admission is free, everyone is invited!
November 17, 2004. The rector of EHU and the President of EHU-International, academician A.A.Mikhailov, sent their congratulations to all EHU students on International Student Day.
November 15, 2004. The Center for Gender Studies of the European Humanities University in Minsk announces the launch of the “Gender and (post)Soviet Nations” project.

In the message, please include your name, position, contact details, as well as a short – 3-5 lines – description of scientific interests.
November 5, 2004. At the meeting of the International Board of Trustees of the EHU on 29 October, in the presence of representatives of donor organizations, as well as representatives of the U.S. State Department and the German and Lithuanian Foreign Ministries, the Council issued a statement expressing support for the EHU-International and its activities.
