Vytautas KAMINSKAS, President of the Lithuanian Conference of University Rectors, Rector of Vytautas Magnus University
Remarks at the Inauguration Ceremony of E.H.U. International

Vilnius, Lithuania, Thursday, June 9, 2005

Your Excellency President of the Republic of Lithuania!
Your Excellencies Ambassadors!
Ladies and Gentlemen!

On behalf of the Lithuanian Universities Rectors’ Conference I would like to express my congratulations to the participants and guests of the Inauguration Conference of the European Humanities University.
The European Humanities University, which was founded 12 years ago in Minsk, is well known to Lithuanian academic community as an institution of education and science, which prepared graduates with new ways of thinking and greatly contributed to the formation of civic society in Belarus. This university also gained a wide international recognition in cooperation with many well-known universities of Europe, the USA, and other countries.
Both the European Humanities University and Vytautas Magnus University are members of international network Campus Europae, comprising 17 universities in total. Two universities in Lithuania, i.e. Vytautas Magnus University and Mykolas Romeris University, are co-founders of a public institution “E.H.U. International”, which operates as a “University in Exile”. I believe, that shortly on the basis of this institution the government of the Republic of Lithuania will give a license to found a permanently working university which could have joint degree programmes with other Lithuanian universities.
Thank you for your attention.
