Bachelor’s Degree Programs in Media and Communication

The goal of the program is to train a new generation of professionals (journalists, media managers, political and cultural analysts and designers), who are able to challenge and influence the Belarusian mass media and public space, possess critical thinking and are ready for promoting democratic values and cultural diversity at all levels of media production. State monopoly on journalists training, the control and censorship over mass media, the low professionalism and provincialism of Belarusian state television – these are but few reasons for the establishment of such program.

Apart of practical workshops in writing, scenario, photography and multimedia presentations, the program provides courses in Political Communication, Law and Mass Media in Belarus, Communication Studies, Critical Theory, History of Mass Communications, Discourse Analysis, Media Planning, News and Reporting Techniques, master-classes with well-known Belarusian and European journalists, media and political experts.

In the framework of Media and Communication program, the students are offered to choose one of the three areas of concentration:

• Visual and Cultural Studies: Specialists’ training in the fields of analysis, management and design of visual information in the system of contemporary media, first of all TV, basing at the inter-disciplinary methodology of cultural and visual studies.
  
  
• Mass Media and Journalism: The specific feature of this program is the study of the theory of today’s mass communications and their political implications combined with obtaining of practical skills in producing media products and management in the sphere of mass communications.

• Visual Design and Media: A study of web and multimedia technologies, combined with basic training in audio- and visual design, aiming at preparing specialists for technical maintenance of contemporary independent mass media.
